Inside 蜜桃视频

Headshot of Katrina Samson.

Message from the Principal

Dr. Katrina Samson

As we close the chapter on this school year, I want to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who makes 蜜桃视频 the extraordinary place it is: our students, parents, faculty, staff and Old Girls/Alums. Your care, commitment and connection to the school bring it to life.

This year has been one of remarkable momentum in our classrooms, on our fields and stages, and in our explorations of our local, national and international communities. Together, we celebrated milestones and traditions that knit our community closer, from Celebration Day and Founders鈥 Day, to the laughter and learning happening daily across our Junior, Middle, Senior and Boarding Schools.

It has also been a year of thoughtful progress. With our strategic plan, , we are laying the groundwork for the future of 蜜桃视频 through the pillars of Connection, Wellbeing & Belonging; Future Ready; and Transforming Tomorrow. These aren鈥檛 just ideas 鈥 they鈥檙e the foundation for everything from student-centred learning in the Junior School, to leadership development in the Middle School, to purposeful programming designed to inspire in the Senior School and Boarding. This work reflects who we are and where we鈥檙e going 鈥 always with our students at the centre.

To the Class of 2025 鈥 congratulations! You leave an indelible mark on 蜜桃视频. Wherever life takes you next, know that you carry the spirit of the ivy with you. As the Grade 11s prepare to take the reins and lead the student body with a commitment to our school values of integrity, inquiry, compassion and courage, I know they will be inspired by your collective leadership. I look forward to celebrating your accomplishments as a class in a few short weeks.

As you read through this final edition of Inside 蜜桃视频 for the 2024-25 school year, I invite you to reflect on the role you each played in the life of this great community. Thank you for your energy, partnership and belief in what we鈥檙e building together. You make the difference, and I couldn鈥檛 be more grateful.

Wishing you all a restful and joyful summer.

Warmly,

Katrina

Message from the Board of Governors

Jill Fraser 鈥87, Chair of the Board of Governors

As we near the end of another wonderful school year, it鈥檚 hard to believe how quickly the time has flown. This will be the final Inside 蜜桃视频 message from the Board for this academic year. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the entire 蜜桃视频 community, including Dr. Katrina Samson, the Senior Leadership Team, faculty, staff and all members of the Board of Governors and Committees for their steadfast support in fostering the exceptional 蜜桃视频 experience we cherish.

In line with our school鈥檚 traditions, we will invite some of our student leaders to the June Board meeting to share their reflections on the year. We are fortunate to welcome students Carol Rong (School Captain), Audrey Gage and Victoria Grignano, and we look forward to learning all about the inspiring things Student Leadership worked on this year.

As we wrap up this school year, we鈥檝e had an array of exciting events that have deepened the love and pride our community shares for our beautiful school. It has been wonderful to see engagement at 蜜桃视频鈥檚 treasured celebrations, including Celebration Day, Carol Service, Junior School Holiday Concert, Hockey Day and Founders鈥 Day, as well as various sports and arts events such as CISAA championships and OFSAA inter-school trips.

The Senior Leadership Team (SLT) has been actively working on advancing the Strategic Plan, , which was introduced to the community last April and continues to receive positive feedback. The framework is built upon three essential pillars: Connection, Wellbeing & Belonging; Future Ready; and Transforming Tomorrow.

Through these pillars, the SLT is working diligently to create actionable goals and initiatives that align with the Empowering Excellence vision. They have engaged with faculty, staff, students and parents to gather insights and feedback, ensuring that the plan resonates with the entire community and addresses their needs. By focusing on these strategic priorities, the SLT is committed to enhancing the overall educational experience at 蜜桃视频, ensuring that our students are not only well-prepared academically, but also equipped with the emotional and social tools necessary to navigate their futures successfully.

Lastly, I want to recognize the remarkable Class of 2025! As you stand on the brink of an exciting new chapter in your lives, take a moment to reflect on all that you have achieved during your time here. You have faced challenges, embraced opportunities and grown into the outstanding individuals you are today. Your hard work, determination and resilience have brought you to this significant milestone, and there is so much to be proud of. The friendships you鈥檝e formed and the lessons you鈥檝e learned will serve as a strong foundation as you venture into the future. As you prepare to embark on your next journey, remember to carry forward the values you鈥檝e embraced at 蜜桃视频 鈥 integrity, compassion and a commitment to making a positive difference in the world. Embrace the challenges ahead with courage and curiosity, and never forget the supportive community that stands behind you.

And, finally, I would like to remind everyone that your philanthropic support for 蜜桃视频 has a positive impact on the student experience. For any inquiries regarding charitable giving or 蜜桃视频’s current philanthropic priorities, please feel free to reach out to 蜜桃视频鈥檚 Executive Director of Advancement, Kate Crokam, to learn how you can contribute.

Wishing everyone an incredible summer ahead!

Jill

Building Strong Foundations at the Junior School

Kate White, Head of Junior School

As we approach the end of another school year, the Junior School community hopes that our students found this year engaging as they developed new skills and discovered more about themselves as students and community members.

Looking back, I’m proud of our collective accomplishments. The Junior School continues to build strong foundations for our girls to make meaningful differences:

  • Our inaugural Student-Led Conferences empowered students to take ownership of their learning while creating meaningful parent-student dialogues 鈥 a key initiative in our strategic plan, .
  • The RULER approach was successfully implemented across all JK to Grade 6 classrooms, alongside our Second Step Program, helping students develop rich emotional vocabulary and essential life skills.
  • More than 80% of students participated in athletics and clubs! From our enthusiastic Kindergarteners joining co-curricular activities for the first time to student-created wellbeing clubs, our community thrived through active engagement.
  • Our partnerships with North York Harvest Food Bank and New Circles demonstrated our students’ compassion, while Grade 6 students showed remarkable leadership by mentoring younger children and leading House activities.

Thank you to the Junior School community for caring and helping every child feel valued and inspired as they embody our core values of courage, compassion, integrity and inquiry in all they do.

A Year of Connection, Growth and Community in the Middle School

Cissy Goodridge, Head of Middle School

This year in Middle School we focused on connection, leadership and a deepened sense of community. During the fall, students had the opportunity to step into leadership roles in new and meaningful ways 鈥 whether as Form and Spirit Reps or members of the Senior School student councils. Our lunchtime programs, led by our senior students, offered additional opportunities for students to connect and build confidence through creativity and play.

A strong focus on values and belonging ran through every grade. Students co-created community agreements that reflected what they care about most, setting the tone for respectful, inclusive interactions. With guidance from Nicole Cozier, our Equity Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging workshops helped students understand key concepts like equity and fairness, reinforcing the importance of seeing and valuing one another.

With the introduction of our new digital device policy, social connection flourished. Students embraced face-to-face interaction, participated in lunch events and took part in record numbers at COSSOT socials. This screen-free environment encouraged deeper friendships and a more positive school climate.

Students also engaged with real-world issues through the Win@Social program and the student-led 1,000 Can Initiative. These experiences fostered empathy, digital responsibility and community action by educating students on topics like managing online hate, understanding the ethical use of AI and addressing food insecurity.

Through it all, students explored identity, built skills, shared experiences and had fun, making this a truly memorable and impactful year.

Holistic Development and Student Agency at the Senior School

Deirdre Timusk, Head of Senior School

This year, 蜜桃视频鈥檚 Senior School was defined by a commitment to holistic student development, focusing on both individual growth and community building. A key initiative was the tailored grade-level programming, from addressing the specific needs of each year from our Grade 9s transition to the Senior School to supporting our Grade 12s as they prepare for post-graduation life. This programming, combined with the development of strong Teacher Advisor (TA) relationships, fostered a supportive environment. As Grade 12 student Kendall O. noted: 鈥淭eachers and counsellors are always at the ready and willing to help out if you have questions.鈥

Student agency was also a central theme this year, with students actively participating in program development and leading initiatives. The House system played a vital role in building community and fostering leadership, which was reflected in the enthusiastic participation at school events 鈥 from dances to the Bench Ball tournament and Hockey Day. As Grade 12 student Victoria G. noted: 鈥淲in or lose, we always bring the best spirit to our events.鈥 These efforts collectively support our Grads in becoming 蜜桃视频 Difference Makers by cultivating self-awareness, promoting continuous learning and inspiring students to act as responsible and engaged citizens.

By emphasizing both academic achievement and personal development, 蜜桃视频 equips students with the confidence, skills and character to navigate future challenges with purpose and resilience.

Building Community in the Boarding School

Nicole Folkes, Head of Boarding

The 2024-25 academic year in the Boarding School has been a reflection of our commitment to student wellbeing, community building and powerful programming.

We began the year focused on our commitment to wellbeing. Our “Care for Me” initiative had students developing personalized wellbeing plans, which helped to foster self-awareness and personal growth. This evolved into “Care for You” in the new year, emphasizing compassion for others and community building. Weekly advisory meetings provided consistent check-ins, creating a nurturing environment.

Our programming flourished with the introduction of a life skills program, equipping students with practical tools for independence such as cooking classes. In addition, students chose from a variety of experiences that allowed them to explore the diverse and culturally rich city of Toronto. Some activities included visiting the Art Gallery of Ontario, touring the CN Tower, attending a Toronto Raptors game and enjoying live theatre productions. Other activities allow an opportunity for students to step outside of their comfort zones and try something new, such as skating at Nathan Phillips Square, learning to rock climb and performing silk aerials.

Throughout the year, Boarding students had the opportunity to work with members of the 蜜桃视频 community to enrich the student experience. Evening workshops, in collaboration with the Student Support Team, allowed students to reflect on their experiences and self care. Nicole Cozier, our Executive Director of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging, worked with Boarding to create a student-led Community Shared Agreement that helps guide how they engage with and support one another. We also worked with the Forum for Change to plan our first community partnership day of service. Members of the Black Student Alliance collaborated with Boarding to plan and attend a Black History Month celebration dinner. Finally, we had another successful year of the Prefect in Boarding Program, which had Prefects spend four nights immersed in the Boarding Program.

Student leadership played a pivotal role in shaping our community and connections. The creation of the “Boarder Supporter Sticker” allowed the Boarding community to recognize 蜜桃视频 staff, faculty and students who made a positive impact and supported the Boarding School this year. Additionally, the Boarding Council led spirit events throughout the year that provided fun activities for advisory groups to strengthen their relationships.

As we reflect on this year, we’re proud of the vibrant, supportive community we’ve cultivated in Boarding 鈥 one where students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

HCPA Co-Chairs End of Year Message

Maria Puthoff and Lucie Lin

As another dynamic year draws to a close, we are thrilled to share that in 2024-25, the 蜜桃视频 Parent Association (HCPA) raised an amazing $35,000! These funds will go toward an exciting new project 鈥 one that our team unanimously supported 鈥 as part of the fundraising campaign. The initiative will bring to life the Vantage Viewpoint Bench, a dedicated space where parents can relax while watching their daughters during team events and connect with other members of the 蜜桃视频 community.

Together, we鈥檝e achieved so much 鈥 fostering connection, supporting our school community and raising vital funds for 蜜桃视频. This year was filled with memorable moments, including Celebration Day, the Ivy Market, the Upper School Gator Gala, the Junior School鈥檚 A-mazing Race, Grade 1 and 5 Breakfasts and our much-loved school-wide Moms鈥 Night Out. We also introduced our first-ever HCPA evening parent socials on campus 鈥 an informal, welcoming way for parents to connect. Thank you to all the Grade Reps who helped make these evenings special.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to our incredible event chairs who led their teams to deliver outstanding experiences. Community Ambassadors extended a warm welcome to new families, while our Staff Appreciation Team reminded faculty and staff how much we value their dedication to our daughters鈥 wellbeing and learning.

We鈥檙e also grateful to the many volunteers who powered initiatives such as the Pre-Loved Uniform Drive, Used Textbook Collection, HCPA Marketplace/Spirit Wear Sales, Bake Sales and our auctions at the Gator Gala and Celebration Day.

Whether you held a formal role on the HCPA or simply lent a hand at one of our many events, thank you for your time and commitment. We truly couldn鈥檛 have done it without you. Together, we鈥檝e helped build and strengthen the bonds that make our community so special 鈥 for new families, long-time members and most importantly, for our girls.

And now, we鈥檙e excited to introduce the HCPA Executive Team for the 2025-26 year:

  • Alison Markowitz and Maria Puthoff: Co-Chairs
  • Leah Li: Vice Chair
  • Odie Lamptey: Secretary
  • Colleen Sun: Treasurer
  • Jennifer Pearson: Communications Chair

We look forward to another fun and successful school year ahead!

Once a Gator, Always a Gator

Carol Rong, School Captain

Before starting Grade 12, I was repeatedly told 鈥 by teachers, former Grads and my parents 鈥 that the year would be over in the blink of an eye. Although I understood that this was probably true, deep down inside me, I couldn鈥檛 bring myself to accept this reality. I mean, how could I? The laughter-filled classes, smiles in the halls, green and gold stained faces, and cafeteria cookies can鈥檛 disappear that quickly, right?

As much as I have tried to prolong this blink, I鈥檝e finally accepted that my 蜜桃视频 journey, like all good things, is coming to an end. To commemorate this moment, I want to address the special people who have made 蜜桃视频 the place I never want to leave.

To Our Teachers

Thank you for always being there for us, before, during and after class, to answer our pressing questions before a test, satiate our curiosity or just to banter. Your efforts to make every topic engaging do not go unnoticed. Know that although you see us less because of our senioritis, we still love and appreciate you in more ways than we could ever express. We are forever grateful for the pivotal role you played in our development and will continue to apply the knowledge (both academic and practical) you鈥檝e imparted to us.

To the Student Body

Your infectious energy, kindness and curiosity are what drive the school culture and make 蜜桃视频 the place we are all so proud to call our school. Being surrounded by all of you has been my absolute privilege and I鈥檝e never failed to learn something from each of you along the way. Keep bringing your authentic selves and don鈥檛 be afraid to jump out of your comfort zone.

To My Fellow Grads

Last year, we eagerly anticipated becoming Grads with our eyes set on new privileges 鈥 chairs in Prayers, glistening white blazers, access to the Grad Common Room (GCR), along with a whole slew of other delights. While those things are certainly nice, I鈥檝e come to realize that the true privilege of being a Grad is the cherished time we get to spend together. Over the past nine months, we鈥檝e experienced our last 蜜桃视频 experiences, from our last first day to our last Carol Service to our last Hockey Day. There鈥檚 something about the idea of last 鈥 probably the fact that it will never happen again 鈥 that bonds. Yapping in the GCR between classes, locking in together before a test and reckoning with the idea of graduating have brought us so much closer, in more ways than we understand. As annoying as it is to open the locked GCR door for one of you pounding on it, I鈥檇 do it again in a heartbeat if it means spending another year together.

While it is still slightly unfathomable that I would not be returning to HC next year, I鈥檓 grateful for the time I鈥檝e spent behind the ivy walls and I鈥檓 excited to see what the next chapter holds. I鈥檓 excited to see the people we become and I鈥檓 excited to come back and visit (Grads 鈥 I better see all of you at the reunions). Once a Gator, always a Gator!

Bye for now,

Carol Rong and the Class of 2025

蜜桃视频鈥檚 Future-Ready Approach to Learning

Lindsay Norberg, Deputy Principal

At Founders鈥 Day this year, Dr. Mary Grant 鈥01 spoke to students from Grade 1 to 12 about how her experiences at 蜜桃视频 helped her answer Principal Ellen Knox鈥檚 enduring question: 鈥淲hat will you do?鈥

Much has changed in the world 鈥 and at 蜜桃视频 鈥 since Dr. Grant graduated nearly 25 years ago. But what stood out in her reflections was that 蜜桃视频 has always been a place focused on helping students develop the knowledge, mindset and skills needed to thrive in an evolving world. For Dr. Grant, this meant accepting support from teachers and peers when presented with a challenge, learning that growth happens outside of our comfort zones, surrounding herself with those who care, showing up early for a tryout, trying hard, being a team player, cheering for others even when disappointed with your results and focusing on progress over perfection.

At 蜜桃视频, being future-ready is about cultivating durable skills 鈥 those that will serve students well throughout their lives. Skills like creativity, critical thinking, empathy, communication, adaptability and ethical decision-making are developed not in isolation, but through a wide range of experiences across the school. These skills are embedded in classroom learning, co-curricular involvement and leadership opportunities, all supported by exceptional faculty.

Learning at 蜜桃视频 is active and relational. Students engage with complex ideas, collaborate with peers and reflect on their growth. They ask questions, explore perspectives and develop the confidence to lead with purpose, all within an environment that is both intellectually rigorous and emotionally supportive.

Preparing for the future isn鈥檛 about predicting what鈥檚 next, it鈥檚 about empowering students with the tools to shape their own paths. By nurturing curiosity, compassion and courage, 蜜桃视频 graduates are ready to make meaningful contributions, wherever life takes them.

Message from the Board of Governors

Obaid Afzal, Chair of the Financial Sustainability Committee

The Financial Sustainability Committee is a committee of the Board of Governors. Our primary mandate is to safeguard the long-term financial sustainability of 蜜桃视频. As Chair of the Financial Sustainability Committee, I have the pleasure of working in partnership with an engaged group of volunteers, as well as 蜜桃视频鈥檚 Chief Operations Officer, Laura Sims, and Executive Director of Finance, Johann McCormack.

Our committee members include current and past parents and senior leaders in the community. We look to involve a mix of individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and financial experience. This provides the opportunity to bring a diverse perspective to discussions and broad insights in support of the financial decisions the school makes.

The Financial Sustainability Committee partners with the Property and Development Committee and 蜜桃视频鈥檚 Senior Leadership Team to ensure the financial plans are in place to support the long-term strategic direction of the school.

Our goal is to oversee and monitor 蜜桃视频鈥檚 financial plan by balancing the interests of multiple stakeholders, including students, parents, staff and faculty. Like all good financial plans, this is a balancing act requiring careful consideration of a series of trade-offs. The topics that we regularly discuss include:

  • Capital spending that invests in the campus to maintain and enhance our facilities in support of our strategy and programs.
  • Short and long-term financial plans and the funding required to support the wide variety of programs that are fundamental to the student experience at 蜜桃视频.

As the Chair of the Financial Sustainability Committee, I am happy to report that 蜜桃视频 continues to be financially strong, benefiting from a disciplined, responsible and thoughtful approach to fiscal responsibility.

Obaid

The 蜜桃视频 Difference Maker: Bringing Our Portrait of a Graduate to Life

Lindsay Norberg, Deputy Principal

蜜桃视频 has long been guided by a powerful and enduring mission: 鈥淧reparing young women to make a difference.鈥 As part of our strategic plan, , we asked: What does it truly mean to be future-ready and how can we ensure our graduates reflect that vision?

This led us to redefine our Portrait of a Graduate 鈥 a clear framework that articulates the knowledge, skills and dispositions students develop during their time at 蜜桃视频. More than a list of outcomes, it brings coherence to our work in academics, wellbeing, inclusive excellence and leadership.

We call this vision the 蜜桃视频 Difference Maker, which is a name that reflects our mission and the kind of graduate we aim to develop. It serves as a shared reference point that shapes how we design programs, support students and prepare them for life beyond 蜜桃视频.

The 蜜桃视频 Difference Maker is a globally-minded, confident and resilient individual, equipped to navigate complexity, lead with integrity and contribute meaningfully in a world in constant flux.

The vision is grounded in three core pillars:

  • Understanding Myself & Others: Building self-awareness, empathy and respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Continually Learning & Growing: Embracing curiosity, reflection and adaptability.
  • Being Inspired to Act: Taking initiative and making a positive impact in communities and beyond.

By defining this shared vision, we align every learning experience at 蜜桃视频 with the future our students are stepping into, ensuring they graduate ready to lead, adapt and make an impactful difference.

Inside HC-X: Where Futures Take Shape

Adam Caplan, HC-X Director

In HC-X, we鈥檙e often asked what the X stands for. Is the X for eXperience? eXploration? Another X-factor? The answer is鈥 Yes!

HC-X designs future-ready programs that emphasize self-development as a key ingredient in lifelong learning, career development and becoming a 蜜桃视频 Difference Maker.

Through HC-X unique programs such as Digital Wisdom, TC-9 and our expanding suite of Digital Microcredentials, 蜜桃视频 students orient their futures by exploring, experiencing and experimenting in different areas of their passion, curiosity and skills.

HC-X works in partnership with parents, Old Girls/Alums and leading professionals working in cutting-edge industries to connect students with mentors on a range of topics, such as capital markets, robotics and AI, media production, surgical sciences and climate action.

For example, this year鈥檚 newest Digital Microcredential offers students an introduction to Architecture & Design, working with architects at their firm offices downtown and visiting the sites of their projects across Toronto.

Another program is 蜜桃视频鈥檚 Next Surgeon experience. Participating students joined women surgeons at St. Michael鈥檚 Hospital to learn about their journey to medical school, work in the wet-lab and develop surgery skills.

In the Virtual Reality Club, students develop fluency in immersive media and ask questions about how these technologies can be applied for workplace learning and development.

Through these opportunities, students develop mental models of who they can become and they consider potential career pathways while developing their identity, competencies and networks.

蜜桃视频 students are invested in their futures and HC-X is all about providing them with opportunities to find their X-factor.

You can learn more about 2025-26 HC-X opportunities in the 2025 summer message parents will receive in late August, or in the Upper School daily announcements starting in September 2025.

蜜桃视频鈥檚 Heart Surgeon Program

Tori Curry, Grade 12 Student

Participating in co-curriculars is a crucial part of my 蜜桃视频 experience, and this year I had the incredible opportunity to lead and participate in 蜜桃视频鈥檚 Heart Surgeon program.

Along with 25 other students across Grades 9 to 12, I spent two days at St. Michael’s Hospital where we were able to hear from different types of surgeons about their fields of medicine. We heard from a cardiologist, anesthesiologist and trauma surgeon and we even learned how to suture using real surgical tools!

I got involved in this program because it is a very unique and hands-on way to expand my knowledge and understanding of the medical field. I was curious if I wanted to pursue a career in medicine, and this program helped to give me valuable insight into what it takes to be a surgeon and what that lifestyle looks like.

I can confidently say on behalf of all the students who participated in the program this year that we each learned something new and fascinating, and we had an amazing time! Even if the experience taught some students that medicine may not be the best path for them, they still enjoyed it. A highlight of the program for me was watching the St. Michael鈥檚 surgical residents suture hearts and then practising ourselves on sponges! If this sounds appealing to you and you are wondering if your future could be in the field of medicine, I urge you to participate next year!

From the Classroom to the Community: Growing Leaders Through Service

Liz Watt, Assistant Head of the Junior School

At the Junior School, future readiness begins with empathy, optimism and real-world experience. Our students aren鈥檛 just learning about leadership 鈥 they鈥檙e living it.

This year, Grade 6 leaders collaborated with our community partner North York Harvest Food Bank, running two successful food drives at the Junior School. They also had the incredible opportunity to volunteer on-site, gaining first-hand experience in community service and making a meaningful impact beyond the classroom.

During their time at the food bank, our Grade 6 students made and labelled boxes, packed food, weighed items, learned about food insecurity and witnessed the direct impact their efforts have on the greater community. Courtney Earl, a Grade 6 student, reflected: 鈥淰isiting the food bank was an eye-opening experience for me because I saw what happens to all the food after it has been donated. I had no idea how much work goes on behind the scenes to get the food to those in need. It felt good knowing we were helping something bigger than ourselves.鈥

Our Grade 5 students were also stepping into leadership this year through a winter initiative with New Circles, a not-for-profit organization that promotes equity and dignity by supporting individuals and families 鈥 many of whom are newcomers to Canada. 蜜桃视频’s Junior School took part in the New Circles gift-giving program, organizing a successful Holiday Angel drive in which students donated gift cards to five New Circles families. Grade 5 students then visited the organization to sort donations and see clients who directly benefited from their efforts. It was a powerful experience 鈥 one that sparked empathy, connection and a deeper understanding of community needs. At 蜜桃视频, we believe girls who make a difference are true leaders 鈥 and our students are rising to that call with heart and purpose.

These collaborations 鈥 fostered through community learning and the involvement of both students and parents, including parent-child volunteering sorts, reflect our belief in reciprocal relationships. Our students don鈥檛 just contribute; they gain valuable insights; develop and deepen their cultural understanding; and engage in meaningful work that fosters a strong sense of purpose.

Community and Corporate Fundraising Manager of the North York Harvest Food Bank Judith Reda had this to say about our partnership: 鈥淲ith one in 10 Torontonians now relying on food banks, the role of young change makers has never been more vital. Our partnership with 蜜桃视频 is a powerful example of what鈥檚 possible when education meets action. Through meaningful engagement, 蜜桃视频 students are not only helping to address urgent needs today 鈥 they’re growing into compassionate leaders who will shape tomorrow. We鈥檙e honoured to stand alongside the 蜜桃视频 community in this shared journey of learning, service, and impact.鈥

We know that preparing students to face tomorrow鈥檚 challenges means empowering them today 鈥 with heart, voice and action. As educators, it鈥檚 our role to create meaningful opportunities where students can see the real-world impact of their actions. This is how we cultivate the skills they鈥檒l need to step beyond our ivy walls and help shape a brighter future.

In the math classroom, Ms. Ewen seamlessly embeds research-informed methods, prioritizing routines for executive functioning and the development of students鈥 study strategies.

Returning to 蜜桃视频 as a member of the faculty is a full-circle moment for Ms. Ewen (Old Girl, Class of 2011), who says 鈥渂eing a Grade 7 Form teacher is my favourite part of my job. The Heart of 蜜桃视频: Our People

Shirley Garcia, Executive Director of Human Resources

At 蜜桃视频, people are the reason we succeed. As the Executive Director of Human Resources, my role is to support the recruitment, retention and development of the finest teachers and staff so they can create the best possible environment for our students. We believe deeply in supporting our employees, who shape the experiences our students look forward to each day.

Compassion and clear intention guide the work of our HR team every day. We use thoughtful and practical approaches, guided by data and genuine listening, to shape decisions across all HR areas 鈥 from hiring educators and staff to developing programs that help everyone feel valued and able to do their best work. We believe that creating a supportive environment means people can confidently make choices aligned with our shared mission: student success.

Our strategic plan sets clear priorities. In our school, being future-ready means investing in ongoing professional growth and creating meaningful opportunities for learning through formal training, supportive relationships, collaboration and real experiences at work. This thoughtful planning ensures our teachers and staff feel prepared and valued today and into the future.

Transforming tomorrow begins with the thoughtful actions we take today. When our employees feel supported and that their work matters, students feel it and collectively benefit from an enhanced school experience in a healthy, positive environment. Our strength lies in the sincerity of our support. When we all work together with a clear shared goal, our whole community thrives. And that鈥檚 what makes our school special and stronger and ready for the future.

Message from the Board of Governors

Rob Brown, Chair of The 蜜桃视频 Foundation Board of Directors

Established in 1966, the 蜜桃视频 Foundation is a registered charity that both receives and invests donations to support key priorities for 蜜桃视频. The Foundation oversees an investment portfolio of mostly donor-endowed funds, valued at $36.6 million as at June 30, 2024. These endowed funds have been gifted over time by parents, Old Girls/Alums, graduating classes, faculty and staff. The Foundation disburses a certain percentage of the value of the endowed funds annually to the school.

Working with an external investment manager and in accordance with the Foundation鈥檚 Statement of Investment Policies and Objectives, the Foundation ensures that its resources are prudently invested with the aim of both growing and preserving capital while maintaining the ability to provide stable grants to the College for priorities such as student financial assistance, capital projects and enriched academic and co-curricular programming.

The Foundation is governed by a board of nine Directors, including ex-officio appointments of 蜜桃视频鈥檚 Board of Governors and a member of the 蜜桃视频 Old Girls Association.

Because 蜜桃视频鈥檚 annual revenues must cover not only the present year鈥檚 expenses but also capital investment and infrastructure costs, fundraising is essential to maintaining 蜜桃视频鈥檚 ongoing financial health and strength. We are grateful to generations of donors, past, present and future, for their generous contributions and ongoing belief in 蜜桃视频鈥檚 mission.

Why Great Teachers Never Stop Learning

Seonaid Davis, Vice Principal of Teaching & Learning

When teachers embrace lifelong learning, they set an excellent example for their students. Their excitement about learning is contagious and inspires students to develop the same mindset.

In a constantly evolving world, lifelong learning has become essential for teachers. New discoveries, technologies and teaching methods are continually emerging, and staying current allows educators to bring the most relevant knowledge and tools into their classrooms. By doing so, they ensure that students receive the highest quality education possible.

Ongoing learning enables teachers to make their lessons more meaningful and relevant to real-world events. It also deepens their understanding of students鈥 diverse needs, helping them create inclusive and supportive classrooms where every student feels valued.

By learning more about how the brain works and how people learn, teachers can improve their teaching methods. This allows them to address not only academic needs but also the emotional and social aspects of learning, which are just as important.

In the Junior School, our curriculum coordinators in Literacy, Mathematics, STEM and Technology provide job embedded professional development (PD) to teachers on a continual basis. This PD model supports teachers by providing expert guidance as they apply their newly gained knowledge in practice.

In the Upper School, departments have joint goals and often a selection of faculty in the department attend specific PD offerings. When these teachers return to 蜜桃视频 after attending PD, they share what they have learned with the rest of the department. This is an example of job-embedded PD.

For teachers, learning isn鈥檛 just about improving skills 鈥 it鈥檚 also a way to stay excited and passionate about their work. Exploring new ideas sparks creativity and keeps teaching fresh and enjoyable. Whether through attending workshops, collaborating with colleagues or reflecting on their own experiences, teachers are always finding ways to grow and improve. This constant growth helps them bring new energy and ideas to their classrooms, benefiting them and their students.

蜜桃视频鈥檚 HCPA: Partners & Difference Makers

Maggie Houston-White, Executive Director of Strategic Enrolment Management

If you ask a new 蜜桃视频 family, a current student or an Old Girl/Alum what makes 蜜桃视频 special, one word inevitably comes up: community. The relationships built here, the shared experiences and the collective belief that we don鈥檛 just aspire to make a difference 鈥 which we do 鈥 are all part of the magic that defines 蜜桃视频.

The 蜜桃视频 Parent Association (HCPA) has played a vital role in shaping and strengthening this sense of community. Originally known as the 蜜桃视频 Community Committee (HCC), the group was renamed in the mid-2010s to better reflect its mission: fostering a strong sense of belonging for every parent. All parents are welcome to get involved, whether by joining a special event committee like the Gator Gala or A-mazing Race, serving as a Grade Rep to keep fellow parents informed or organizing social gatherings that help families connect and build lasting friendships.

Beyond bringing parents together, HCPA members generously give their time and talent to support key events that not only strengthen our community, but also raise funds that enhance student opportunities and facilities 鈥 helping every 蜜桃视频 student thrive.

蜜桃视频鈥檚 faculty and staff are also among the many beneficiaries of the HCPA鈥檚 work. Whether through thoughtful appreciation events, co-ordinating volunteers for academic and co-curricular initiatives, or engaging in meaningful discussions about school programs, the HCPA is a valued partner in ensuring 蜜桃视频 remains a leader among girls鈥 schools in Canada.

We are deeply grateful to all parents who contribute to 蜜桃视频, whether by volunteering through the HCPA, by attending events or supporting initiatives in countless other ways. It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child; we believe it also takes a village to support a school. The HCPA is not just a key partner in our community 鈥 it is a vital part of our village.

Grade 11 Students Explore the Power of Authenticity

Fiona Marshall, Director of Student Leadership

For the second year in a row, 蜜桃视频 hosted a special leadership retreat for Grade 11 students, who will become stewards of the student body in the fall of 2025. Throughout the year, this class has explored their values in Advising time, recognizing that leadership is an ongoing practice rather than a destination. They brought these insights to a day of reflection and growth, themed The Power of Authenticity and Letting Go of What Gets in the Way. Because authenticity is a cornerstone of 蜜桃视频鈥檚 leadership philosophy, creating space for students to engage in this self-discovery is an essential part of our work at the school.

Students began the day with an inspiring talk from guest speaker Monika Myers, a Grade 11 Canadian student with Down Syndrome who has made waves in the fashion industry as a high-fashion model on runways around the world. Monika shared how embracing authenticity and courage has allowed her to create a more inclusive space and positively impact others. As an ambassador for Down Syndrome and advocate for diversity and inclusion 鈥 both for those with visible and invisible differences 鈥 she encouraged our students to join her in defining themselves as Brave and Beautiful.

The Grade 11 students spent the rest of the morning engaged in activities designed to help them reflect on their true selves 鈥 beyond who they feel they should be 鈥 while embracing the uniqueness of authenticity and imperfection. They then explored how authenticity shapes and strengthens communities through an impactful authenticity workshop led by Executive Director of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging, Nicole Cozier.

In the afternoon, participants explored the barriers preventing them from fully embracing their authentic selves. Through both individual reflection and collective sharing, they identified what was holding them back. They then wrote these barriers down, read them aloud and cast them into a fire pit, which was a powerful symbol of their commitment to letting go and breaking them down each day.

The day concluded with a meaningful collective sharing activity, leaving our future Grad class feeling more connected, empowered and valued for who they truly are. With a renewed sense of confidence and unity, they are ready to lead the student body next year. As one student put it, 鈥淭his experience brought us closer together as a class, and together we can do anything.鈥

Inside 蜜桃视频

Belonging Matters

Nicole Cozier, Executive Director of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging

Belonging may seem to some like the latest 鈥渋t鈥 concept, but research shows that belonging is essential for student wellbeing and success. When students truly belong, they engage more fully, take risks in their learning and deepen resilience. Without it, they disconnect, struggle or seek belonging elsewhere 鈥 often in harmful spaces that offer a false sense of connection. In a time when the world feels increasingly fractured, the work of belonging is more important than ever.

As educators, we have a responsibility to ensure that all students find real, healthy belonging in communities that uplift and support them.

At 蜜桃视频, that means that belonging isn鈥檛 a nice-to-have; it鈥檚 a necessity and a priority practice embedded in every part of school life so students feel valued not just for what they achieve, but for who they are.

This commitment is evident in Junior and Upper School Cultural Prayers when students share their personal histories, languages and traditions, offering their peers a window into their identities and experiences and deepening their sense of pride in who they are and how they shape our school.

Through the development of community agreements, our Middle School students co-create commitments to define how they want to learn, lead and support one another throughout the year.

In the Upper School, Affinity Groups and Alliance Spaces help students connect within and across identity groups, forming deep relationships built on shared experiences and mutual respect. Most recently, in the Grade 11 retreat on authenticity, students explored what it means to show up as their true selves and how they can create spaces where others feel safe enough to do the same.

These are just a few of the ways we centre belonging every day.

This work is mission critical. Belonging isn鈥檛 about fitting in 鈥 it鈥檚 about feeling safe enough to stand out, take risks and develop confidence in one鈥檚 own voice. This work allows our students to stretch, grow and thrive, knowing 鈥 as my colleague and collaborator, Krista Koekkoek wrote 鈥 that they are enough, exactly as they are, and 蜜桃视频 is better because of them.

And when they step into the world, that deep sense of belonging will empower them to lead with courage, create spaces that uplift others and be prepared to make a difference.

Indigenous Ways of Being and Knowing in Grade 5/6 Integrated Arts

Rachel Read, Junior School Integrated Arts Teacher, and Marissa Magneson, Cree-M茅tis Artist Educator

We are called, as individuals and as a school community, to build relationships and understandings with all cultures in our school community, Turtle Island and beyond. These diverse, vibrant and contemporary cultures build the vibrant community and culture of 蜜桃视频. Within the Grade 5 and 6 Integrated Arts program, we have made Indigenous Ways of Being and Knowing a central part of our student experience through Indigenous Arts and Culture. Integrated Arts is founded in a 鈥渃ulture-first鈥 pedagogy of arts education where music, dance, drama and visual arts flow from a deeper understanding of culture.

We have been fortunate to work with Indigenous artists who introduce cultural understandings alongside specific artistic or cultural expertise. Cree-M茅tis artist educator Marissa Magneson teaches the culture, history, music and art-making of the M茅tis; M茅tis Firekeeper Sabastian Koprich shares cultural teachings of the sacred fire and Indigenous ceremonies; and Cree-M茅tis composer and songwriter Mathew Magneson shares music as a form of personal expression.

This two-year relationship begins with cultural teachings and protocols rooted in reciprocity with the land as an introduction to M茅tis artistic practices, such as bead-art painting techniques inspired by Christi Belcourt. Students follow this learning with M茅tis beading skills, which culminates in Grade 6 students designing, crafting and beading their own deer-hide moccasins. This activity is a reflection of their learning and ongoing journey of walking in a good way in partnership with Indigenous Peoples and the land.

Alongside this learning, students experience traditions and culture. This includes musical performances from our students, led by Marissa, and performances from Mathew at school assemblies and during class. In Grade 5, students participate in a full moon ceremony and a sacred fire on the land with Marissa and Sabastian in honour of grandmother moon.

Students are encouraged to explore and reflect on their personal stories and experiences to better understand their own rich and diverse heritage and personal identities. At 蜜桃视频, it is important that students feel a sense of belonging; that they feel seen, safe and equipped with the tools that allow them to thrive while learning about and exploring the diversity of each other, our community and beyond. Indigenous Ways of Being and Knowing provides students the time and space to explore these concepts in authentic and meaningful ways while further developing reciprocal relationships with one another, our school community and beyond.

Building Belonging Across the Globe

Alexandra Zourntos, Associate Director of Admissions

蜜桃视频 is known for its strong sense of community and belonging, an intangible yet ever-present force that resonates in our hallways and classrooms as well as in the relationships we cultivate. We reflect this core value in our thoughtful and comprehensive Boarding admissions process, which takes into account the entire family. We take great pride in designing and executing a process that ensures every family feels welcomed and is seamlessly integrated into our community.

When working with Boarding families, we recognize the importance of personalizing each interaction. We do this by taking the time to understand the family鈥檚 dynamics, cultural practices and specific needs, ensuring we provide the necessary support for a smooth academic, social and emotional transition. This strong foundation of trust is crucial in fostering a sense of belonging for students and their families once admitted.

The admissions process at 蜜桃视频 is truly a team effort, with contributions from various departments working together on decision-making and onboarding. Whenever possible, we connect prospective families with current Boarding families, who share their personal experiences and provide a range of resources before the student鈥檚 arrival, from insights on our culture and values to helpful packing tips. Once the student arrives, our dedicated Boarding staff works closely with families to ensure they feel fully supported. From orientation and mentoring programs to regular check-ins, we focus on helping students adjust academically and socially, empowering them to thrive in our vibrant community.

While every step of our process is rewarding, some moments stand out as particularly meaningful. One of our favourites is connecting with parents after enrolment and hearing, through their eyes, how much their daughter has flourished. The relationships we have with our Boarding families continue long after graduation, reflecting the strong, welcoming community that 蜜桃视频 is known for.

Bringing Joy and Enthusiasm to Spirit Week

Grace Hodgson, Clubs and Spirit Prefect

Spirit has been an integral part of my time at 蜜桃视频. I love the excitement of dressing up on Hockey Day, head-to-toe in green and gold glitter, while fully embracing the event. This is my way of showing pride for our school and fostering a sense of connection with those around me. From my first Spirit Week in Grade 3, it became clear to me that this week is more than just a fun tradition: it is a way to express my pride and bring energy to the school community.

When the school elected me as Clubs and Spirit Prefect, I felt a deep sense of honour and responsibility. This wasn鈥檛 just a title, but an opportunity to make every student feel valued and empowered to express their spirit with pride. This year鈥檚 Spirit Week was one of the most memorable, filled with creative themes, high energy and even a few unexpected surprises. From the chaotic fun of Crazy Clash Day to the nostalgia of Generations Day, the school came alive with enthusiasm and laughter. The Spirit Week assembly brought everyone together in celebration, and Hockey Day saw students proudly decked out in green and gold, cheering louder than ever. Even when a snow day forced us to reschedule the Grade Cheer Off, the spirit never wavered. Instead, it was a reminder of what this week is truly about, not just the competitions and costumes, but the sense of community and school pride that unites us all. Seeing the joy and excitement on everyone’s faces throughout the week reaffirmed why spirit has always been such an important part of my 蜜桃视频 experience.

As I step into my next chapter in June, I know the spirit I鈥檝e found at HC will always be a part of me, giving me the confidence to take on new adventures, the heart to build meaningful connections and the energy to bring joy and enthusiasm wherever I go.

Enacting Our Commitment to Wellbeing

Krista Koekkoek, Vice Principal of Student Life & Wellbeing

The message of prioritizing wellbeing is everywhere. You can鈥檛 listen to a podcast, scroll your social media or roam a bookstore without words about prioritizing self-care or putting yourself first. And to what end? It鈥檚 a challenging time to consider what it means to be well.

I read a piece this year by Dr. Tracy Dennis Tiwary, a researcher and professor in psychology and neuroscience at City University in New York. In it, she confirms that we now know more about mental health and wellbeing than at any other point in history. We have more strategies, tactics, support people and self-help books than ever before.

Yet, rather than have less 鈥渦nwell鈥 in the world, we seem to be experiencing increasingly more. And despite what some will say, there actually is no single cause for it. Not our phones. Not our social media. Not our lack of getting out for a run this morning or having protein in our shakes.

There is not one thing that has single-handedly hurt our wellbeing.

Dr. Tiwary wonders鈥攁nd so do I鈥攊f we have all tried to pursue 鈥榯oo much鈥 when it comes to our mental health. Are we overdoing it when it comes to figuring out how to feel okay in the world? Is there just too much pressure to live our best life?

What if we reminded ourselves and taught our girls that we are enough?

I am going to say that again. We are enough. Right now, in this current moment, we are all we need to be.

And we need you. We need your daughters. The world needs your daughters just as they are. Not fixed. Not perfect. Not changed. Not self-helped out.

They are enough.

What if wellbeing is not a task or an item on a checklist but a way of being? Enter 蜜桃视频鈥檚 . A commitment that puts strengths and growth, compassion, self-awareness and living a values-aligned life at the centre of its priorities. It鈥檚 not a task, but a way of being.

So we commit at 蜜桃视频 to not touting the latest trends in 鈥渉appiness,鈥 but rather preparing young women for the inevitable ups and downs of life, and having the confidence to authentically be their whole selves, setting the boundaries they need to feel fulfilled, contributing to something greater than themselves, with a curiosity for learning and growing.

Message from the Chair of the Board of Governors

Jill Fraser

New Year鈥檚 greetings from the Board of Governors. We extend our warmest wishes for a happy and healthy 2025.

As the second term begins, we should pause to reflect on the eventful start of the school year. We commenced 2024-25 with excitement for the many engaging co-curricular and athletic events and for the opportunity to once again join together as a community for Celebration Saturday and Reunion Weekend later in September. Thrive Week returned to promote mental health awareness and highlighted some of the strategies and skills that students can use to improve their wellbeing. A number of student-initiated Junior School Wellbeing Clubs emerged after our initial Thrive Days this year, including the Grade 3 Wellbeing Kids Club, the Grade 4 Positivity Club and the Grade 5 Beading Club. There are 14 winter athletic teams and 198 athletic spots and we鈥檙e excited that 224 athletes have participated in 464 athletic spots since September. We hosted our first Gator Games of the year in the Fall, with our teams supported by students proudly wearing green and gold! First term closed with a series of Christmas concerts. The traditional Upper School Carol Service held at St. Paul鈥檚 Bloor Street Church was a delightful evening of carols and lessons. The Grade 1 to 6 Christmas Concert was a beautiful event also held at St. Paul鈥檚 Bloor Street, while the Kindergarten Holidays Concert was held in the Junior School. It was, once again, a fantastic way to move into the holiday season!

As we plan for the next school year, we want to remind parents/guardians that the opportunity to apply to serve on the Board of Governors or a Board Committee is currently open. The Board of Governors Application Form is located , and I encourage you to become involved. This year, the Board is especially interested in identifying potential candidates with one or more of the following: governance experience serving on a philanthropic board and/or charitable foundation; capital infrastructure and development oversight experience; CEO/C-suite experience; and marketing, communications and public relations management experience. The application due date is Friday, February 7, 2025. Applications will be reviewed in February/March with interviews taking place in March/April for those selected. Additional details on . Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at boardofgovernors@havergal.on.ca.

We have accomplished great things so far and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve throughout the rest of the year. I鈥檓 delighted to see our school values of integrity, inquiry, compassion and courage at work in the school and our community. Thank you all for your efforts and support as we navigate 2025 together.

Sincerely,

Jill

Thriving Together鈥擭urturing Wellbeing in the Junior School

Junior School Head Kate White and Assistant Head Liz Watt

The wellbeing of our students is at the heart of everything we do at 蜜桃视频. Why? Because we know that a healthy and fulfilled child is better equipped to learn, grow and thrive. When students feel safe, supported and valued, they are more engaged in their academic work and develop the confidence to take on new challenges. Prioritizing wellbeing also strengthens their social-emotional skills, such as empathy, resilience and teamwork, which are essential for building strong relationships and navigating life’s ups and downs. In order for this to happen, students need to develop a toolkit of strategies that they can use not only now, but also in the future.

This year, we shifted from having a 鈥淭hrive Week鈥 early in the year, to having a series of 鈥淭hrive Days鈥 throughout the year, where we have introduced our students to a variety of tools they can use and practise. The purpose of these days is to:

  • Normalize the human experience of emotion and reduce stigma.
  • Acknowledge that wellbeing is unique and diverse.
  • Support reflection and awareness building in what community members need to be well.
  • Provide new tools/skills to cope with life鈥檚 challenges.
  • Align with .

On Thrive Days, all members of the Junior School community, including teachers, take part in a variety of activities aimed at exploring new tools for their wellbeing toolkit. While we recognize that not every strategy works for everyone, our goal is to offer an opportunity for individuals to try new approaches, refresh their resources and swap out what no longer serves them. Many of these tools are inspired by student suggestions on what has been most effective for them, and several students actively contribute by leading Thrive activity sessions. Some examples of activities include cosmic yoga, mindful colouring, guided meditation, gratitude sessions, beading, chalk colouring with music, origami, exercise classes and more!

We believe that fostering wellbeing is not a one-time effort but an ongoing journey. By embedding practices that prioritize mental, emotional and social health into our everyday lives鈥攅specially through initiatives like Thrive Days鈥攚e are creating a culture where students feel safe to explore, experiment and build the skills they need to flourish.

A Holistic Approach to Wellbeing in Grades 7 to 9

Kirsten Uhre, Director of Guidance, Student Support & Wellbeing

Our Grade 7 to 9 Guidance Team is dedicated to fostering student wellbeing as a foundation for academic success. Grounded in research and driven by a holistic approach, the team鈥攎ade up of Ms. Winograd, Ms. Steele and Ms. Randall鈥攑rovide specialized, comprehensive support through one-to-one meetings, Form activities and grade-wide sessions. Topics discussed by this passionate team of experts include time management, study skills, friendships, co-curricular activities, mental health and academic planning.

Developmentally appropriate, specialized support is tailored to the unique needs of each grade cohort. Students in Grade 7 are welcomed at the beginning of the year by their Guidance Counsellors via individual meetings, where they are given time and strategies to adjust to the transition into middle school.

This personalized care continues as students move through Grade 8 alongside their designated counsellor. Time is spent with Grade 8 students exploring their interests and passions through the course selection process.

The Grade 7 to 9 Guidance Team also runs the First Six Weeks program for new-to-Grade 9 students, which is a unique program at our school. Students who are new to the school meet with their Guidance Counsellor once per week for the first six weeks of school to ensure that they are adjusting well to the demands of high school and connecting with new friends. More specialized academic counselling takes place with Grade 9 students as they continue to explore a variety of interests and course pathways. This work is purposefully designed to enhance and take into account the importance of each student鈥檚 emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing.

Through their unwavering commitment and thoughtful approach, our Guidance Team plays an integral role in helping ensure students are ready for the opportunities and challenges of the middle years so they can thrive.

  • Providing individual counselling to help students identify their strengths and interests and transforming them into university programs and, eventually, careers.
  • Assisting students through the research stage to the application phase, which includes supplemental application support as well as scholarship information.
  • Helping students find summer enrichment opportunities that support the development of their interests.
  • Developing community programming with topics relevant to post-secondary transitions, including navigating roommate relationships and decision-making around post-secondary offers.

蜜桃视频’s Student-Led Wellbeing Council

Hadley Michael, Wellbeing Prefect

Wellbeing at 蜜桃视频 is guided by a dedicated team that includes a student-led Wellbeing Council. This council recognizes that wellbeing is deeply personal, reflecting the unique interests and needs of every student. By embracing a holistic approach, the council strives to support all aspects of student life including physical, mental and emotional health.

Unique to this year, the Wellbeing Council has been working on planning and promoting Thrive Days, monthly student-led initiatives designed to prioritize meaningful activities that promote happiness, health and connection within the school community. Thrive Days are created in collaboration with key pillars of 蜜桃视频 life. For example, in partnership with the Forum for Change Council, we hosted a post-Halloween pumpkin smash to symbolically release negative self-talk while repurposing some pumpkins in the process. Currently, the Wellbeing Council is focused on organizing the Hockey for Health initiative, alongside the Sports Council, which will emphasize growth and resilience in sports by continuing the conversations about mental and physical health after Hockey Day.

An exciting new development within 蜜桃视频 Wellbeing this year is the community partnership with , a charity dedicated to empowering youth to promote mental health awareness through talks, summits and fundraising events.

Through Jack.org鈥檚 “Be There” program, council members have been engaging in training modules to deepen their understanding of mental health and learn to recognize signs of struggle. This partnership marks the beginning of an impactful journey toward building a more informed and compassionate school community.

As the Wellbeing Prefect, I am honoured to work alongside a dedicated team to ensure that every student feels valued and supported so that they can thrive at 蜜桃视频. Together, we hope to inspire open conversations about mental health, foster a stronger sense of community and empower everyone to take steps toward promoting their health and wellbeing in all aspects of their lives.

As the Manager and Lead Nurse of the Health Centre at 蜜桃视频, Ms. Kanner’s focus is on building a healthy, well community at 蜜桃视频. With 16 years of pediatric nursing experience, including 12 years in neonatal and pediatric critical care and experience teaching nursing students at the university level, she brings specialized care, expertise and compassion to the school environment.

In addition to physical health, mental wellbeing is a priority in her work. Ms. Kanner understands the pressures students face and is available to provide a listening ear, guidance on stress management and support for mental health challenges. She works closely with guidance counsellors, social workers and other staff to ensure a holistic approach to each student’s wellbeing. Boarding students often face additional challenges being away from home. Whether it’s helping them navigate homesickness, managing long-term health conditions or simply providing a comforting presence during a difficult time, she ensures they have the care and attention they need to feel safe and supported.

In addition to direct care, Ms. Kanner teaches CPR and First Aid to all faculty members, equipping them with the skills needed to handle emergencies with confidence.

Principal’s Message

Dr. Katrina Samson

We are constantly inspired by our community鈥檚 commitment to provide an exceptional educational experience for our students, and this is made possible through your unwavering support. As you know, we carefully manage our financial resources, with tuition covering essential operating expenses. However, it is your generosity that enables us to go beyond the basics, funding the innovative programs and enhanced facilities while enriching experiences that define a 蜜桃视频 education. Philanthropy ensures we continue to elevate our students鈥 journeys, helping them reach new heights in academics, arts, leadership and, notably, athletics.

As part of our campaign, we are excited to bring our Athletic Program up to the exceptional standards of our academics. Our mission is clear: to provide our students with an environment that empowers them to be strong, confident and resilient, both in the classroom and on the field. By enhancing our athletic facilities, programs and coaching staff, we are setting a new benchmark for girls鈥 athletics, fostering physical and mental strength and instilling lifelong skills. Athletics are not only about competing; they鈥檙e also about building character, developing resilience and strengthening teamwork.

As we look forward to the release of our Annual Report, you will see the tangible impact of your contributions, from state-of-the-art learning environments to programs that sustain financial support, making a 蜜桃视频 education accessible to more students than ever. Your gifts reflect a shared commitment of ensuring all deserving students can thrive at 蜜桃视频, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Together, we are creating an inclusive, dynamic school environment where every student has the opportunity to excel. Join us in continuing to shape the future of 蜜桃视频 as we continue to build a legacy of excellence, opportunity and strength.

In the coming weeks, we will share our 2023-24 Annual Report. Inside are highlights of the remarkable progress, achievements and stories that have defined our year. Packed with insights, inspiring milestones and a look ahead at what鈥檚 to come, it鈥檚 a reflection of the collective impact we’ve made together.

Call for Applications for the 蜜桃视频 Board of Governors

Michael Copeland, Chair of the Governance Committee

I have the pleasure of writing to the 蜜桃视频 community on behalf of the Governance Committee of the Board of Governors, as this is our formal call for applications to serve on the Board or a Board Committee.

The primary responsibility of the Governance Committee is to ensure that the Board is well-equipped to carry out its oversight role with respect to the College. Part of that responsibility is continually evaluating how well the Board and its committees carry out their mandates and advance the College鈥檚 educational mission.

One of the most important things the Governance Committee works on is identifying and nominating strong candidates for the Board and its committees. This is an ongoing and dedicated effort as we strive to maintain a roster of broadly qualified candidates. Using a competency-based model, the committee identifies skills and constituencies to be considered as we plan for the future.

In reviewing applications, the Governance Committee looks to constitute a Board that balances a mix of competencies and experience, Old Girls/Alums, current and past parents, and independent members. The Board is also committed to ensuring diverse cultural representation and reflecting a wide range of skills and experiences that align with our competency framework.

In assessing applications, the Governance Committee favours no particular professional background over another, but we frequently seek specific areas of experience and expertise. This year, the committee is especially interested in identifying potential candidates with one or more of the following: governance experience serving on a philanthropic board and/or charitable foundation; capital infrastructure and development oversight experience; CEO/C-suite experience; and marketing, communications and public relations management experience.

Governors are volunteers and must be willing to commit the substantial time, effort and energy necessary to fulfil the role and serve the school. It is also expected that a Board Governor will make 蜜桃视频 one of their top philanthropic priorities.

If you are interested in being considered for the Board or a committee, please let us know by completing the and submitting your CV to the Governance Committee by Friday, February 7, 2025. Additional details on the role and responsibilities of Board and committee members .

Girl holding up a sign that says "Girls who play sports become women who lead."

“When you participate in sports, you are unconsciously learning important life skills for the workforce. Are you leading a warm-up or a team huddle? You are learning public speaking and leadership skills. Did you finish a tough practice or lose a close game? You are learning perseverance, work ethic and reflection. Did your coach give you feedback? You are learning how to receive and interpret feedback for personal growth. It is not surprising to learn about the number of C-suite female executives who were also athletes in their youth.”

蜜桃视频鈥檚 Ahead of the Game Campaign

Recognizing the Importance of Girls in Athletics

Empowering girls through outdoor education and sports has long been a point of pride at 蜜桃视频. Athletics, outdoor education and play are instrumental in nurturing essential life skills including courage, teamwork and goal setting. As such, we are excited to announce the commencement of , which prioritizes athletics for girls and women.

Athletics is at the heart of the 蜜桃视频 community, with 580 students participating in at least one sport in the 2023-24 school year. This campaign will revolutionize athletics at 蜜桃视频 for years to come. Key aspects of the campaign include a new turf field and seasonal dome on the Cohen Field, as well as brand new tennis courts with a lounge and seating areas to encourage spectatorship.

By guiding a growing interest in sport and physical activity, this campaign aims to:

  • Foster personal growth, wellbeing, teamwork, leadership and future career success.
  • Create a supportive environment where every student can thrive academically and personally while developing the skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.
  • Promote equity by increasing participation in sports among girls, ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to gain from the invaluable lessons and benefits that athletics can offer.
  • Instil lifelong habits of physical fitness and wellness among our students.

We are grateful to members of our community who have supported the campaign to date. Your belief in our vision is vital in our efforts to transform athletics and outdoor education at 蜜桃视频, elevating athletics to the same standard at which we hold academic excellence.

Mission Critical: Financial Support

Maggie Houston-White, Executive Director of Enrolment Management

蜜桃视频 is more than a place of learning; it is a hub of innovation, community and opportunity for young women who want to make a difference in the world. Behind every program and every transformative student experience lies the critical support of financial contributions. Investing in girls鈥 education is one of the most impactful ways to transform societies and drive global progress. Educated girls grow into empowered women who contribute to stronger families, healthier communities and more equitable economies.

Financial Support at 蜜桃视频 allows us to offer admission to students who might otherwise be unable to access a 蜜桃视频 education and allows us to support current 蜜桃视频 families who have encountered a change to their circumstances, making tuition unaffordable. Financial Support is about shaping futures, our future, and ensuring that a 蜜桃视频 education is accessible for the young women who have the drive, skill and talent to impact our ever-changing world.

We believe that the strength of our community is rooted in the diversity of experiences, perspectives and backgrounds that each student and family brings to our school. To maintain this inclusive and enriching environment, Financial Support plays an essential role.

We are deeply grateful to the 蜜桃视频 community鈥攑arents, Old Girls/Alums and friends鈥攚hose generous contributions make our Financial Support and Scholarship programs possible. Our donors are investing not just in the future of individual students, but in the legacy of 蜜桃视频. By educating girls at 蜜桃视频, we not only equip them with the tools to succeed, but also create ripple effects that benefit generations to come. Supporting girls鈥 education is not just a moral imperative鈥攊t is a strategic move toward a brighter, more inclusive future.

Cultivating Confidence and Character Through Junior School Athletics

Anna Bartlett, JS Athletic Director

When you pass through the Junior School gyms and fields during Phys-Ed and team practices, you will see students being physically active and having fun. At first glance, it may seem like just any other school, but what sets 蜜桃视频 apart is how we prioritize student wellbeing and encourage young students to get involved in athletics at an early age.

Getting kids physically literate at a young age is important in building their confidence and motivating them to try new activities later in life. When children learn basic skills such as running, jumping and throwing and specific skills such as dribbling, hitting and shooting at a young age, they are more likely to maintain an active lifestyle into adulthood. This physical competence builds a foundation for exploring a variety of sports and activities, leading to increased confidence and willingness to take risks.

蜜桃视频’s aim is to make it safe to try out different activities, which allows students to be brave instead of perfect. While they are on teams, they learn how to make decisions quickly and understand how to bounce back. They learn how to lead. They learn focus and perseverance, which translates into better study habits and academic success.

At 蜜桃视频, early athletic involvement is a cornerstone of character development and builds the students鈥 confidence into the Upper School and beyond, supporting lifelong success. Through our Athletics Program, we鈥檙e not just developing athletes, we鈥檙e nurturing confident resilient individuals who aren鈥檛 afraid to challenge themselves. As we continue to foster this supportive athletic environment, we鈥檙e proud to see our Junior School students grow into well-rounded individuals who approach athletic and academic challenges with enthusiasm and determination.

Inside 蜜桃视频

Garth Nichols

Message from the Vice Principal of Experiential Education and Innovation

Garth Nichols

Grounded in research from the educational sector and beyond, HC-X is 蜜桃视频鈥檚 innovation hub. Featuring unique courses and learning experiences, HC-X allows students to practise future-ready skills and faculty to grow from innovative professional development opportunities.

It is essential that HC-X factors in our mission of preparing young women to make a difference because our world is changing in many ways. You may have read about the V.U.C.A. world (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) and the forces that are accelerating the speed of innovation. Through courses and programming, HC-X is able to respond in ways that allow us to examine what good preparation for the future looks, sounds and feels like. Our HC-X team is able to research and network within and beyond the educational sector and bring that research into practice with our students; in many ways, we bring the future to our students鈥 doorsteps, providing them with the opportunity to consider the difference they can make in their community and the world around them.

For example, the proprietary course Digital Wisdom allows students to explore their digital world through the lens of anthropology, psychology and sociology. The focus is on identity development in a world shouting at young people about what to be, say and do. 蜜桃视频 students in Grades 5, 6, 7 conduct case studies, self-reflection and experimentation as they consider digital forces. In Grade 7 and 8, they take part in scenario-based learning with a Generative AI platform, Ametros, to interact directly with, and reflect on, GenAI and its role in their own lives.

Another example is the proprietary course TC-9, students are asked to challenge the UN Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG) #13: Climate Action. Throughout the course, they explore their relationships with the land through a transdisciplinary approach combining science; data science; Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing; and more. Students meet and network with community leaders and organizations doing great work to challenge #13 and other UNSDGs. Throughout the process, students activate their own agency and practise what it means to make a difference in the world through their own action project.

Our students in Grades 9 to 12 can pursue cutting edge curriculum and learning they are interested in through our Digital Micro-Credentials program. We offer digital microcredentials in pre-med, architecture, law and contemporary finance鈥攚here students explore ESG investments, capital markets and cryptocurrencies.

HC-X is putting our students in the driver鈥檚 seat of their learning, supporting them with resources and networking skills and by introducing them to incredible people, partners and places to broaden their perspectives and experiences to understand, engage with and experience the future.

Lexi Ensor

Message from the Board of Governors

Lexi Ensor 2013, President, HOGA

As the new academic year progresses, I am excited about connecting with our ever enthusiastic community of Old Girls/Alums. This year promises to be filled with opportunities for engagement and connection, reflecting the spirit of 蜜桃视频 and the strength of our Old Girl/Alum network.

Reunion Weekend brought more than 500 Old Girls/Alums back to campus, providing a meaningful opportunity to celebrate long-standing friendships and shared memories. A highlight of the weekend was honouring our award recipients for the 2024-25 year: Kingi Carpenter ’81 and Dr. Barbara Fallon ’84, who each received the Lifetime Achievement Award for their contributions to various communities, along with Jacqueline Nunes ’02, our Susan Ditchburn Young Alumna Award recipient. These remarkable individuals embody the spirit of our community and their accomplishments remind us of the impact 蜜桃视频 Old Girls/Alums have. We also took special time to recognize our graduates celebrating significant milestones, particularly the Class of 1974, our Cinquantenaires (those who graduated 50 years ago) and the Class of 1964, our Stoneagers (those who graduated 60 years ago). The bonds forged at 蜜桃视频 often endure for decades, highlighting the strength and significance of friendships that shape our lives and inspire future generations.

We are always excited to engage every member of our Old Girl/Alum community, from recent graduates to those who graduated decades ago. Our aim is to create events and projects that resonate across generations, fostering a sense of inclusion and connection for everyone. This year, you can expect enhanced communications and a varied offering of events, including regional gatherings in Halifax, New York City, Hong Kong, Jamaica and London, providing opportunities for Old Girls/Alums to connect. Additionally, we look forward to our Annual General Meeting in the spring, where we can gather to discuss our accomplishments and future plans together.
As we move through this year, I encourage you to participate in our events and initiatives, share your ideas and play a role in strengthening the connections within our community.

If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please feel free to reach out to me at lexi.ensor@havergal.on.ca.

Warm regards,

Lexi

Digital Microcredentials as Experiential Learning Opportunities

Adam Caplan, Director, HC-X

Digital microcredentials are like a good bracelet stack鈥攊t鈥檚 not about the individual bracelets, but how the collection of them shows up. This is how Modern Mentor Rachel Cooke describes the trend of these bite-sized learning experiences.

Digital microcredentials are bite-sized certifications that offer students new learning pathways to explore their interests and passions. Following a trend emerging in the corporate world of work and learning, microcredentials are increasingly being adopted by educational institutions to prepare students for the future workforce.

Microcredentials offered through the HC-X, 蜜桃视频’s Innovation Hub, sit alongside the regular academic curriculum as opt-in experiences. These micro-learning experiences offer a focused approach to skill development in specific areas and provide students with 鈥渟maller denominations of learning鈥 than traditional courses or full academic programs.

For HC-X, our digital microcredentials also target fields of study not typically covered in existing academic courses. Students have the opportunity to develop their interests in areas such as PreMedical Studies, Artificial Intelligence, Design Thinking & Entrepreneurship and Contemporary Finance鈥攅ach taught in partnership with organizations that bring graduate students from acclaimed institutes as instructors to our participants in Grades 9 to 12. This year, we鈥檙e excited to expand these offerings with two new microcredentials: Intro to Architecture and Future Lawyers, further broadening the array of opportunities for students curious about these dynamic and growing fields.

Microcredentials empower students to explore their interests in a personalized way. Over time, credentials can be 鈥渟tacked鈥 to form a unique narrative of a student鈥檚 interests and accomplishments. They allow students to craft a story of curiosity, dedication and growth across diverse subject areas. Students receive their digital credentials through a blockchain-based digital wallet and can easily share the evidence of their accomplishments with others throughout their education and career journey.

For more information about HC-X Digital Microcredentials, please contact Adam Caplan or visit .

Generative AI Framework 1.1

Garth Nichols, Vice Principal of Experiential Education and Innovation

蜜桃视频鈥檚 Generative AI Framework is moving to . We are introducing to our students in Grades 7 to 12. This will be a two-year pilot program designed to explore AI-powered learning in a secure environment. This initiative will provide students access to generative AI tools that support their learning while ensuring data security and privacy.

What Makes FlintK12 Different?

FlintK12 operates entirely within our school鈥檚 network. No data generated by students or teachers is used to train the AI model, nor does any data go beyond the school鈥檚 secure environment. We are confident this approach prioritizes both safety and effectiveness in learning.

The platform offers two main functions:

  • Flint AI Chatbot: A chat-based GPT-4-mini agent to assist students in real-time learning tasks. This tool is designed to offer educational support tailored to the specific needs of each student.
  • Teacher-built activities: Teachers can create customized AI activities, aligning support with classroom instruction and enhancing individual learning experiences.

蜜桃视频鈥檚 AI Learning Team, composed of educators across grade levels, will be working together to design, test and refine the use of these tools. This collaborative effort helps ensure that the platform will evolve to meet the needs of our students. HC-X Leadership is also working closely with other schools, allowing us to build on the collective experience and ensure best practices.

Students have been oriented to the platform through a presentation at Prayers and Form and TA sessions. Faculty will be working with students in classes as well.

Additionally, we have established an AI framework and guidelines for students and faculty to help everyone navigate this and other AI tools responsibly.

If you have any questions or concerns about FlintK12, please don鈥檛 hesitate to contact Seonaid Davis or Garth Nichols

Ms Carson with students working on integrating technology into gym class for the Grade 5 students.

The Importance of Technology Integration for Young Learners

Paula Carson, JS Technology Coordinator

In the Junior School, we are committed to providing students with opportunities to engage with technology in meaningful ways. Intentional integration of technology supports the development of digital literacy skills, strengthens opportunities for personalized learning experiences, student agency and engagement. It also enhances opportunities for critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and real-world connections.

Teachers in the Junior School have been developing new programming to support the development of technology skills, digital literacy and digital creation. One example is in Grade 5 Health and Physical Education, where students recorded videos of themselves practising their dribbling and passing skills during their basketball unit. This activity supports students to self-assess their performance and set goals for improvement.

Additionally, students are developing their digital creativity skills through projects that enhance content-specific learning in the classroom. In Grade 1, students are documenting signs of the changing seasons through digital photography and poster creation. Meanwhile, Grade 4 students are exploring habitats around the world by designing digital posters to inform others. Looking ahead in the school year, students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 will have opportunities to participate in digital escape rooms, movie making, podcasting, robotics, coding and more.

Classroom discussions and activities about digital citizenship are a vital part of our curriculum. Students learn to differentiate between how devices are used at school and at home, promoting responsible and purposeful use of technology. Throughout the school year, students will learn about online safety, media balance, digital communication and how artificial intelligence works. Students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 are also learning how to utilize digital resources, such as by using Canvas, our learning management system, to access learning resources and submit assignments.

By integrating technology into our curriculum in intentional and meaningful ways, we aim to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that prepares our students for the challenges and opportunities in the digital world.

Student Experiences Participating in 蜜桃视频鈥檚 Digital Microcredential Program

Finding My Path: The Pre-Med Microcredential and My Journey into Medicine

Audrey Gage, Grade 12

Curiosity about medicine has been a constant thread in my life, starting from childhood. When I was eight, my aunt gave me a detailed medical textbook on human anatomy and I was hooked. I spent hours studying it, fascinated by the intricacies of the human body and the science behind diseases. At that point, my interest in becoming a doctor began to feel real, but it wasn鈥檛 until I experienced the Pre-Medical Studies digital microcredential that I truly started to see medicine as my future.

The microcredential I completed in Grade 11 was a pivotal experience. I went in looking for clarity鈥攈oping to confirm my long-held interest in medicine and determine if I was ready for a direct-entry program in the UK. A group of interested students met for about 20 hours to learn together from a graduate student at Harvard. The course covered anatomy and physiology in ways that challenged me beyond what the regular high school curriculum could offer.

That summer, I had the opportunity to attend a program at the University of Pennsylvania, where I got to apply everything I had learned. We worked in a simulated hospital, dealing with realistic medical scenarios, from diagnosing conditions to performing CPR on mannequins that responded like real patients. It was intense, but it confirmed my love for the field.

Through this process, I spoke with numerous doctors and realized that there鈥檚 no need to rush into medical school. Many of them took non-linear paths, gaining life experience before committing to the profession. That insight changed my perspective. While I still want to pursue medicine, I鈥檝e decided not to apply for direct-entry programs. Instead, I plan to take time to grow, explore other interests and gain experiences that will make me a better, more well-rounded doctor in the future.

For anyone considering a microcredential, my advice is simple: do it. Whether it confirms your passion or redirects you to something else, the clarity and experience you gain are invaluable. The Pre-Medical Studies microcredential helped me realize that my path to medicine is one I want to take thoughtfully, with time and purpose.

My AI Microcredential Experience in Grade 10: How It Sparked My Curiosity

Victoria Lu, Grade 12

In Grade 10, I discovered the world of artificial intelligence by taking a microcredential offered at 蜜桃视频. At the time, I had a basic understanding of AI, but I was eager to learn more about AI as a rapidly evolving field. This microcredential became a significant stepping stone in my journey to explore AI and Computer Science.

One of the things that stood out to me during the course was how hands-on and interactive it was. We used Google Colab notebooks to experiment with different AI models and I vividly remember a cool example where we programmed the AI to detect various poses. It was fascinating to see AI in action and I was able to play around with code and see immediate results. Being exposed to the expertise of our instructor from Stanford helped solidify my interest in computer science and engineering.

Even after the microcredential ended, I found myself returning to the skills I learned. I used Google Colab and the notebooks from the course for personal projects outside of school, including one with Amazon Web Services, which allowed me to dig deeper into AI-related programming. Having that early exposure to AI through the microcredential gave me the confidence to tackle more advanced projects on my own.

I鈥檇 recommend a microcredential in AI to anyone who鈥檚 curious, even if you鈥檙e just starting out. AI has such a huge influence on our world today, and it鈥檚 only going to become more important in the future. If you鈥檙e interested in computer science, or even if you鈥檙e just looking for something new to learn, it鈥檚 definitely worth exploring.

Dr. Katrina Samson

Welcome to our first edition of Inside 蜜桃视频 for the 2024-25 school year. I hope the summer brought time with family, relaxation and a healthy dose of sunshine. If you are anything like me, you tuned into the Paris Summer Olympics in August. I love the Olympics! My family often jokes, “It鈥檚 Olympics season; Katrina鈥檚 going to be over there crying for two weeks.” And they鈥檙e not wrong. When Summer Macintosh won her first gold medal, I was driving, listening to the radio commentary on her race with tears in my eyes hearing of her first gold medal. Watching the parents, the partners, the coaches鈥攁nd knowing the hours of support, the sacrifices and the pride鈥攇ets me every time. As well, I鈥檓 amazed by the diversity of athletes, from an 11 year old to a 65 year old, from all around the globe, all in pursuit of a common goal: excellence.

I鈥檝e been thinking about what the Olympics teach us about the pursuit of excellence. It鈥檚 a topic that resonates beyond sports. What can we, as parents and a community, learn about the pursuit of excellence from Olympians?

At 蜜桃视频, we鈥檝e been discussing excellence a lot. It鈥檚 the foundation of our and at the core of our mission. We come in every day committed to teaching, modelling and inspiring excellence in your children. But excellence is too often misconstrued as perfection. Pursuing excellence is not about being perfect. It鈥檚 about giving one鈥檚 best effort, learning from our experiences and aiming to be better today than we were yesterday.

Excellence is setting bold, ambitious goals and persevering through challenges. It鈥檚 understanding that both successes and failures are temporary and that hits and misses are part of the journey. Perhaps most importantly, excellence is not a solo pursuit鈥攊t鈥檚 a team effort. Much like Olympians who lean on coaches, family and teammates, our children need a strong support system to pursue their own excellence.

Excellence also calls for collaboration. The word 鈥渃ompete鈥 comes from Latin origins meaning 鈥渢o strive together.鈥 At 蜜桃视频, we strive together for the success of every student. We鈥檙e not just pushing individual accomplishments; we鈥檙e genuinely invested in one another鈥檚 success.

So, what does excellence look like for your daughters here at 蜜桃视频? It鈥檚 about ensuring they know we are on their team, supporting their growth and helping them become the best versions of themselves. Excellence also means working with intention, both as educators and as a community, to bring out the best in one another. Each of us, whether student, teacher or parent, has something to share and learn.

As we bask in the excitement and energy a new school year brings, my hope is that we鈥攑arents, educators and students鈥攃ome together to inspire excellence by supporting one another, being open and constructive in our feedback and reminding our girls that pursuing bold dreams is done step-by-step with the support of a strong committed community.

As parents, you are an essential part of Team 蜜桃视频. Together, I know we鈥檒l foster an environment where excellence is encouraged and all children feel supported in their journeys to reach their full potential.

I hope to see you at Celebration Saturday on September 28, from 9:30 am to 1 pm. I look forward to our year together!

Katrina

Message from the Board of Governors

Jill Fraser 鈥87, Chair of the Board of Governors

Welcome back to 蜜桃视频 from the Board. I hope you and your family have enjoyed some memorable moments together over the summer. Whether this is your first year as a part of our 蜜桃视频 community or you are a returning family, I am sure you share my excitement in having all of our wonderful students back on campus.

Our year gets underway with the return of Celebration Saturday, which takes place on our beautiful campus on Saturday, September 28. Celebration Saturday was inspired by Ellen Knox鈥檚 famous question, What will you do? That question prompted the community to create an event whose purpose was twofold鈥攖o raise funds and awareness for our Community Partners across the GTA while building school and community spirit. It is a time to celebrate our school鈥檚 mission, vision and values by bringing our past, present and future together. I know this event will be another resounding success thanks to the dedication and hard work of our staff, faculty and the entire school community. We greatly appreciate everyone鈥檚 vital contributions to this important event. We also look forward to many other exciting upcoming school events that are 蜜桃视频 traditions, including the Junior and Senior Kindergarten Christmas Concert, Junior School Christmas Concert, Upper School Carol Service, various Music Nights, play performances and many more.

Over the summer, the campus was buzzing with activity. Our facilities’ rentals included the Ivy Camp鈥檚 fourth summer with us, many sports clubs and film shoots. Facilities projects were in full swing, including roof work at the Junior School, the installation of electrical outdoor security stations and our ongoing grounds maintenance鈥攁ll essential initiatives to keep our campus safe and beautiful.

At our first Board meeting, scheduled to take place on October 1, we will vote in our new Governors, who will be introduced in the October edition of Inside 蜜桃视频. At that Board meeting, we will also say goodbye to six of our Governors who have provided invaluable guidance to our Board during their tenure. I鈥檇 like to take this moment to extend a huge thank you to our retiring Governors who have dedicated many years to working with school leadership to help shape 蜜桃视频鈥檚 future: Debbie Simpson (our past Chair), Diane Jeffreys, Alison Glober, Brad Radin, Greg Pardy and Sandra Seaborn鈥攜our contributions have been immeasurable. We thank you for your exceptional service and the positive impact you have had on our school.

I will close by wishing everyone all the best for the fall and encourage you all, new and old, to be active members of our vibrant community. Your participation in school life, whether through the , , the Foundation, the Board of Governors or its committees, or participating in our many events, is invaluable. We appreciate the time you devote to our community and the unique perspectives and experiences you bring. Your active involvement is what makes 蜜桃视频 a place of growth, learning and community.

Warm regards,

Jill

Helping Manage Distractions and Support Relationship Building

Lindsay Norberg, Deputy Principal

Fostering strong relationships and connections within our community is essential to the 蜜桃视频 community. To support this goal and align with our philosophy on the role of technology in learning, we have updated our .

After consultation with faculty, parents, students and staff, the school updated and clarified its policy regarding the use of digital devices on campus during the school day.

The focus of the policy is to:

  • Nurture a positive school culture: encourage face-to-face interactions and foster meaningful relationships.
  • Reduce distractions: ensure devices are used strictly for educational purposes during class time and at the discretion of the teacher.
  • Foster digital wisdom: help students develop healthy digital habits with an understanding of the impact of screen time on their wellbeing, focus and productivity.

We are excited to announce that will speak with our Middle School students about responsible device use. His presentation, scheduled for October 1, will provide valuable insights and guidance on this important topic.

In addition, parents are invited to a special session with Jake Ernst on Monday, September 30, where he will address how to support healthy device habits at home. More details about both presentations will be shared in .

How can families support this policy?

  • Reviewing the policy at home and reinforcing the goals and objectives outlined by the school.
  • Sharing with your child鈥檚 Guidance Counsellor and/or Learning Support Specialist any potential learning or health needs that might require digital devices that have not previously been shared.
  • Ensuring children do not bring smartwatches or other wearable devices to school (JK to Grade 8).
  • Supporting classroom teachers and school administrators in the implementation of this policy.

We encourage parents to partner with us in fostering a balanced approach to technology use both at school and at home. By working together, we can help our students cultivate healthy digital habits, build strong connections within the 蜜桃视频 community and enhance focus and wellbeing.

蜜桃视频鈥檚 Approach to Generative AI

Garth Nichols, Vice Principal of Experiential Education & Innovation

This year, 蜜桃视频 has launched a . This framework was developed to support our entire community in understanding how Generative AI will be explored, integrated and managed within our Teaching and Learning philosophy.

The framework has a version code of 1.0 because we will be reviewing this document throughout the year, taking in feedback on how our approach is supporting the learning experiences. If changes need to be made mid-stream, they can.

The foundation of the framework is that this latest digital transformation remains very human. We are putting the relationship between the educators and the students at the core of the approach. Our faculty will examine when, where, what and how Generative AI can support teaching and learning processes. Additionally, HC-X faculty have been experimenting and learning about Generative AI alongside our students in our Digital Wisdom classes, which all students in Grades 5 to 8 participate in at 蜜桃视频.

In June and August, our faculty took part in professional development by and . This provided us with a shared language and combined experiences to grow and learn from. We are excited about the possibilities that Generative AI can provide as our students continue to learn the skills of critical and creative thinking, constructive doubt and strong research and writing skills.

For more on our approach to Generative AI and how we are integrating it into the teaching and learning experiences, please reach out to me at gnichols@havergal.on.ca or to Adam Caplan, HC-X Director, at acaplan@havergal.on.ca.

Celebration Saturday

Maggie Houston-White, Executive Director, Strategic Enrolment Management

Saturday, September 28 will see 蜜桃视频 students, employees, parents and Old Girls/Alums put our mission鈥preparing young women to make a difference鈥攊nto action. As a community, we will come together to show our support for and dedication to our .

This is not your typical fun fair: yes, there is cotton candy and inflatables and many ways to have fun, but it is more than that. It is students, parents and our broader community thoughtfully planning activities and programs that not only highlight the work of each of our Community Partners, but also emphasize how our support of their programs enrich us all.

Parents play such a key role in this event, from the leadership of the members of the HCPA to all of the parents who volunteer their time and talent to the event. Our students see in each volunteer a role model and we as a school see a partnership that we value and are so grateful for.

Did you know?

  • Our Bazaar vendors are entirely made up of Old Girls/Alums, parents and students? Not only do we have access to fantastic products on that day, but our students also have the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by parents and Old Girl/Alum entrepreneurs.
  • Our famous cookiegrams are not something we order from a local shop, but are baked by our students in between practices, rehearsals and school work. They do it because they know they have both the ability to and the responsibility to live our values and to serve the broader community.

While Ellen Knox may not have envisioned gigantic cookies or a creative haunted house when she asked her students What will you do?, I have no doubt she would be filled with pride seeing our community making a difference in so many ways at Celebration Saturday.

No matter the obstacles.

No matter the journey.

No matter the odds.

No matter what.

Each year we share the life and legacy of Terry Fox with our Junior school community to inspire each other to embody his values of perseverance, courage and hope. It’s also an opportunity to raise awareness about cancer research and encourage each and every one of us to contribute positively to our communities, just as Terry did.

In our Grade 5 classes, a Thomas King quote on our door reads: 鈥淭he truth about stories is, that鈥檚 all we are.鈥 Stories are super important because they help us understand who we are and the world around us. They are like the building blocks of our lives and cultures. Think about how stories can change how we see things or even inspire us to do something new. Can you think of a story that made you see things differently or taught you something important?

Each year, we look forward to sharing parts of Terry鈥檚 story. His story of determination, passion and courage. We believe that his story will have a lasting impact on all of us.

As Terry ran 44 years ago, something almost magical happened. Canadians rallied behind his fierce determination and his message of hope. Donations poured in and are still pouring in. Thanks to you, we have raised almost $6,000 this year alone. To date, as a 蜜桃视频 community we have raised and donated $288,046.44 to the Terry Fox Foundation since 2006!

Terry Fox represented the best that Canadians have to offer. He was an example of courage, humility, determination and perseverance. From a young age he exemplified these attributes that made him an inspiration for not only Canada, but for the entire world.

The Junior School enjoys the opportunity to run as a community. Every year, we put on our Terry Fox T-shirts and running shoes as we think about who we will be running for. This year, I ran for my Grandmother! I ran for Terry! I ran for hope!

Meet Our Faculty & Staff

Headshot of A Zourntos

Alexandra Zourntos

Associate Director of Admissions, Senior School

Ms. Zourntos joined 蜜桃视频 in 2022 as Associate Director of Admission, Senior School. Focusing on Grade 9 day applications, Boarding applications and international recruitment, her role encompasses the things she enjoys most about education: connecting with families to provide an excellent admission experience and building relationships in different countries as she represents 蜜桃视频 on the road.

With a career in education that has spanned roles in teaching, guidance and admissions, the best part about teaching for Ms. Zourntos was connecting with students and guiding them toward their goals. However, a passion for curriculum within her courses was the missing piece. She was seeking a way of working with students directly, but outside of the classroom, in an administrative role. An opportunity arose to organize and execute experiential education programs around the world and, with an existing affinity for international education and travel, she spent years leading students throughout South America, Europe and Oceania. She later spent a year in Brazil teaching and spearheading an exchange program for students in Porto Alegre while assisting in recruitment efforts in neighbouring states.

Upon returning to Canada after working abroad, Ms. Zourntos eagerly accepted the position of guidance counsellor at a private school. She loved being able to make an impact on students in the areas of academics and wellbeing. This role included admission responsibilities, which led her to transition into leading the admission efforts for the campus. Fast-forward to today, she has found the perfect mix at 蜜桃视频 supporting students, maintaining international exposure through recruitment travel and building relationships with key stakeholders. She leverages her knowledge of the Ontario curriculum to gain a deeper understanding of students鈥 needs and provides maximum effort and enthusiasm to ensure families feel welcomed, informed and inspired throughout their admission experience.

Coming up on the 2024-25 travel docket for the Admission Team, Ms. Zourntos will be representing 蜜桃视频 in Vietnam, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Jamaica, Mexico, UK and Barbados.
